Blepharoplasty is the single most visually rejuvenating facial procedures available today and this is largely because when others look at a person’s face, the eyes are the focal point of the face. As you age, the skin on your eyelids begins to loosen and droop, which gives the eyes a tired, sad, or grumpy appearance. Blepharoplasty removes excess fat and skin from the upper and lower eyelids. This corrects drooping upper lids and puffy bags below the eyes, which creates a more refreshed and youthful appearance. It can be selectively done for either the upper or lower eyelids depending on the individual’s concerns.
If you are bothered by the heaviness, excess droopy skin on your upper eyelids that make you look tired and sad or if your eyes look puffy and tired due to under eyes bags or bulges; then you are a candidate for blepharoplasty. Adults of any age who are bothered by the above mentioned eye conditions and are moderately fit are good candidates for this procedure.
Recovery time varies from patient to patient, but most report full recovery within 2-3 weeks. Sutures are generally removed at 7-10 days post surgery.
After surgery patients are instructed to place cold compresses over the closed eyelid for first 48 - 72 hours and keep the head elevated while sleeping with the help of 2-3 pillows. This helps to reduce the postoperative swelling and heaviness of the eyelids. Medications to control the swelling and discomfort are prescribed for first 5-7 days postoperatively. It is better to refrain from any strenuous activity including exercise, lifting heavy weights or indulge in any contact sports for atleast 3 weeks after surgery. Patients may resume work 3- 5 days after surgery depending on the swelling and personal perferance..
Our eyebrows also tend to droop as we age due to degeneration and loss of tone of the soft tissues around the eyes and face aided by the effect of gravity over time. Chronic sun damage has been known as a cause of collagen degradation and laxity of tissues of the face. Droopy eyebrows gives rise to sleepy and tired appearance of the eyes. Browlift of browpexy is repositioning the eyebrows to higher position giving the person a refreshed and youthful appearance. It can be performed by many techniques - 1) Direct external browlift : wherein a crescent of skin and soft tissues is removed leaving a scar just above the eyebrow hair. 2) Internal browpexy : this is performed along with an upper eyelid blepharoplasty and has no visible scar on the skin. 3) Pretrichial browlift : In this case, the incision is placed on the scalp just before the hairline. 4) Endoscopic browlift : this is performed using an endoscope via hidden incisions in the scalp and behind the hairline. Visit our clinic to find out if you are a candidate for any of the above techniques.
