Oculoplastics is a specialised branch of ophthalmology and plastic surgery that represents a variety of procedures that involve the eyelids, tear ducts, eye socket and the midface. Ocular reconstructive surgery, aesthetic eyelid surgery, facial plastic surgery, and cosmetic procedures fall into this category Some types of oculoplastic surgery are considered functional meaning - both medically necessary and cosmetic. For instance, certain eyelid and periocular issues can affect a person’s appearance as well as their vision, eye comfort, and eye health.
Oculoplastic surgeon undergoes 3 years of residency training in ophthalmology learning about health of the eye and eye surgery; followed by additional 2-3 years of training in oculoplastic surgery which quite literally means plastic surgery around the eyes. Following this many surgeons, like Dr Adulkar, may chose to train internationally to be able to offer world class care and state of art techniques to the patients. This puts an oculoplastic surgeon in an unique position to meticulously perform plastic and reconstructive procedures around the eyes while taking care of patients vision and eye health. Although, there may be other specialty trained doctors including plastic surgeons, faciomaxillary surgeons, ENT specialists or dermatologist who may perform procedures and surgeries around the eyes, an oculoplastic surgeon is well equipped to manage any eye-related problems that the patient may complain of or any complications/ side-effects of the treatments around the eyes.

I had a accident in which I tore my eyelid, on such a small area she took 24 stiches with such a precision that one would not believe. In a gentle way she explained what she was gonna do. Local anaesthesia was given and during the procedure time and again she would ask my comfort. Also the way she was explaining to her junior was applaudable. Thanks a tonne doc

Eyes are a mirror to our soul and are the focal point of our face. They are the most charismatic facial feature that attracts attention when someone looks at us. The first signs of ageing appear around the eyes.
Blepharoplasty is the single most visually rejuvenating facial procedures available today and this is largely because when others look at a person’s face, the eyes are the focal point of the face.
When an eye is lost due to disease or injury, an artificial eye (prosthesis) can be fitted in its place.
This is one of the most common oculoplastic conditions seen in the clinics. It can present in all age groups from newborn infants to elderly population and management differs in different age groups.
Benign essential blepharospasm (BEB) is a neurological condition in which affected individuals experience involuntary muscle spasms and contractions of the muscles of the eyelids and around the eyes.
Anophthalmia is a condition that represents the absence of the eyeball and ocular tissue from the orbit. It may be congenital, where a child may be born with no eye or associated structures, or it may be acquired, when an eye is lost to trauma or surgery. True congenital anophthalmos is very rare. It may sometimes be associated with an orbital cyst.
